How to Become a Leader
Leadership is not a distant trait reserved for the chosen few; it is an intrinsic quality within each of us, waiting to be awakened. True leadership begins with the courage to act on this innate potential, leading from the front and embodying the principles we wish to see in our environment. By setting a personal example, we inspire others to follow suit, fostering an environment where values and actions align seamlessly. This proactive approach to leadership not only drives individual growth but also cultivates a culture of excellence and integrity, reflecting the powerful impact of leading by example.

Leading From the Front
Imagine this Scenario
Imagine you were a soldier during an era of your choosing. It could be an Army soldier, a Spartan, a Samurai, anything of your choosing. Picture yourself about to go over the wall or off the boat and into the beginning of a battle. Your commander is barking orders from the back telling you to push up but you are scared, telling you to attack but you are nervous, screams at you to get on your feet and fight because he demanded you to do so. Would you feel motivated or willing to go into battle if that is how your leader acted and talked to the other soldiers like you? Probably not. Then you look to your left and see a commander who was the first one over the wall or off the boat and he immediately starts instilling confidence in his soldiers by shouting positive affirmations (You got this! or I have faith in you!) and he believes in you to make a difference in the world. You admire his bravery and courage to lead his soldiers from the front of the line. He isn't visibly afraid and spreads that belief to his group of soldiers. Are you willing to fight alongside this commander over the one cracking the whip and barking orders from the back? More than likely yes.
Application in Sport of the Scenario
Lets picture that same scenario in the view of sport. You would want the captain of the team to act in a similar manner. Maybe he leads the pregame prayer, stands up for you after a hard foul, inspires your team to comeback from a deficit that seems insurmountable. A captain who leads by example with the right goals in mind is someone you would ride with. The thing is, that ability to lead is within all of us. We just have to take the first step.

The world needs more leaders. It does not matter whether you are working at a construction site, playing professional soccer, or parenting your family, you have the opportunity to be a leader every day. Take the initiative and lead by example for your peers. Be an effective communicator and have a vision that all of your teammates can get behind and pursue together. A leader must exemplify integrity and empathy to its peers. Be an inspiration to others! As a leader, you take responsibility and accountability for your actions along with the squads actions. We need more leaders in this world and there is no reason why it can't be you!
